How to add leads to AgencyZoom from Claude, step by step
- Get the AgencyZoom skill. request it through wheretobegin.ai/contact and let Ben know you want the AgencyZoom skill. Ben sends you the skill file for free so you can install it in Claude.
- Connect your AgencyZoom login. The first time you run the skill, it asks for the email and password you use for AgencyZoom. Enter your email first so the skill knows which user is adding the lead, then send the password. The password is used only in that one conversation and is not saved to your Claude account.
- Let the skill load your existing leads. When setup finishes, the skill pulls your existing leads into a registry. In the demo it pulled in 19 leads. This lets the skill deduplicate, so it will not add a lead you already have.
- Type the new lead in plain English. Ask Claude to add the lead with the details you have. For example: "Add a new lead to my AgencyZoom. It's a commercial lead. His name is Bob Jones, his business is Bob's Emporium, and his email is bob@bobsshoeemporium.com." Claude recognizes the request and uses the AgencyZoom add lead skill.
- Set the lead source and confirm. The skill assigns the lead to you, places it in the New pipeline, and asks for a lead source from your available options, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, or referral. Pick the source, then approve when the skill asks if it is okay to send.
- Let Claude send it to AgencyZoom. The skill sends the lead through the AgencyZoom API and confirms when it is done. Refresh AgencyZoom and the new lead appears, with the business name, email, and lead source filled in.
- Add a note to a lead when needed. You can also update an existing lead from Claude. Ask something like "Add a note to Bob's Emporium: this is a test," then refresh AgencyZoom to see the note on the lead.
What a Claude skill is and why it helps insurance agents
A Claude skill is a repeatable action that Claude can take for you based on the context of your conversation. Instead of clicking through screens, you describe what you want in plain language and Claude carries out the steps.
The AgencyZoom skill covered here connects AgencyZoom, the insurance agency CRM and management system, directly into Claude. Once it is installed, adding a lead becomes a single typed request. The skill is something Ben built and shares for free, and WhereToBegin.ai is an independent course that is not affiliated with Anthropic or with AgencyZoom.
How the one-time setup and login work
The first time you use the skill, it walks you through connecting your account. It needs the email and password you use to sign in to AgencyZoom so it can make the connection on your behalf.
You enter your email first. That tells the skill which user is adding the lead. Then you send your password. The skill does not save your password in your Claude account. It is held only in that one conversation, so the connection stays scoped to the session you are working in.
What happens when you add a lead
After setup, the skill pulls your existing leads into a registry. In the walkthrough it loaded 19 leads. This is how it deduplicates, so a lead you already have in the system will not be added again.
When you submit a new lead, the skill assigns it to you, drops it into the New pipeline, and asks you to choose a lead source from your options. If a prospect found you on LinkedIn, you pick LinkedIn. You can change your lead source options inside your AgencyZoom settings so they flow through to the skill, which lets you tag a lead as coming from Facebook, a referral, or anywhere else.
Once you confirm, the skill sends the lead through the AgencyZoom API. Think of an API as an online USB cable that connects Claude to AgencyZoom. When AgencyZoom confirms the lead is added, you can refresh and see it appear with the business name, email, and lead source in place.
Updating a lead after it is created
The skill is not limited to creating leads. You can also update one that already exists by asking in plain language.
For example, asking Claude to add a note to Bob's Emporium that says "this is a test" prompts the skill to find the lead and apply the note. Refresh AgencyZoom and the note is there. That makes it easy to keep notes current without leaving your conversation with Claude.
