How to start lesson 1 of the Claude for insurance course
- Open your dashboard and copy the lesson prompt. Sign in at wheretobegin.ai, click lesson 1, and click to copy the prompt. The dashboard holds the prompt for every lesson, so it is where you come back to each time.
- Paste it into a new chat in Claude. Open Claude, start a new chat, and paste. After about 30 seconds the lesson starts and greets you by name, so you know it kicked off properly. Give each lesson its own fresh chat.
- Type let's go. Claude introduces itself, explains that you are in regular Claude chat mode for now, and that you can go at your own pace with no clock and ask anything at any time, including things that are not part of the lesson.
- Tell Claude what you are working on. Claude asks whether you are on a phone, a computer, or a tablet so it can pick the right lesson plan, and confirms you got the course from wheretobegin.ai rather than a copy.
- Turn off model training before anything else. Claude walks you through it: click your initials in the bottom left, open Settings, choose Privacy, and switch off Help improve our AI models so the toggle is fully gray. Type done when it is off. Ask Claude if any step is unclear.
- Answer the questions about your agency. Lesson 1 finishes by asking for your name, your agency website or details, your location, and the carriers you work with, so later lessons already know your context.
- Move on to lesson 2. Claude tells you how to start the next lesson when you finish. You can also go back to your dashboard any time, click lesson 2, copy that prompt, and paste it into a new chat.
The course is a conversation, not a video library
Most courses hand you videos to watch. This one hands you a prompt. You paste it into Claude and Claude becomes the teacher, which means the thing you are learning is also the thing teaching you. By the end of lesson 1 you have already had a real working conversation with Claude, which is the whole skill.
Claude says it plainly at the start: you go at your pace, there is no clock, and you can ask anything at any time, including questions that have nothing to do with the lesson. That is the part people underuse. If a lesson mentions something you have never heard of, stop and ask. The lesson waits.
It also means nothing is on rails. If you want a step explained again, or explained differently, you just say so.
What the dashboard is for
Your wheretobegin.ai dashboard is where the lessons live. Each lesson has a copy button that puts that lesson's prompt on your clipboard, and you paste it into Claude to run it.
Give each lesson a new chat. That keeps the lessons from running into each other, and it is how you redo one later: open the dashboard, copy that lesson again, paste it into a fresh chat. Lessons can be repeated as many times as you like, and the course stays yours.
What the 12 lessons cover
Part 1 is regular Claude, the chat version that runs in your browser, on your phone, on an iPad, or in the desktop app. Those sync in real time, so you can start something on your laptop and pick it up on your phone.
Lesson 1 is how to talk to Claude. Lesson 2 introduces skills, which the course also calls recipes, and has you fill in an ACORD 125. Lesson 3 is working with your own documents: summaries, policy comparisons, and drafting client emails. Lesson 4 is projects and memory, so Claude knows who is in your agency, how you like to write, and which carriers you work with. Lesson 5 connects your tools, such as your email and calendar. Lesson 6 is researching and finding new leads.
Part 2 is Cowork, where Claude stops being a chat window and reaches real files on your computer. That part also covers Claude for Chrome, which is what lets Claude work inside carrier portals and your AMS to help with submissions.
Privacy comes before any client data
Lesson 1 handles the privacy setting before it asks you a single thing about your agency, which is the right order. Claude walks you through turning off model training on your own data: click your initials in the bottom left, open Settings, choose Privacy, and switch off Help improve our AI models until the toggle is fully gray.
Anthropic is the company that makes Claude, and that setting is what stops your inputs being used to train its models. Do it before you paste in anything real. Only after that does lesson 1 ask for your name, your agency, your location, and your carriers.
You do not need to be technical
The course addresses this head on, before you have time to worry about it: if you can use a Word document and send an email, you already have every skill you need to finish it. None of it is coding.
The framing the course uses is cooking. You do not memorize a thousand recipes. You learn the fundamentals, practice on a few dishes together, and after that you can make your own. The lessons are not a list of button presses to copy, they are a way of thinking about handing work to Claude, which is why they still apply when your agency's work does not look like the example.
And you are not on your own. Real people are behind the course, so you can email help@wheretobegin.ai with a genuine question. You can also just ask Claude first, which usually answers it faster.
