How to install FreeBird for HawkSoft, step by step
- Sign in at wheretobegin.ai/account/freebird. Log in to your WhereToBegin.ai account. If you do not have one yet, you can buy the full course for $399 or start a free 5-day trial.
- Download FreeBird for Windows. Click Download FreeBird for Windows. When the download finishes, open it from your browser's downloads list, which is the top right corner in Google Chrome.
- Get past Windows protected your PC. If Windows shows a Windows protected your PC notice, click More info, then Run anyway. It appears only because FreeBird is so new that Microsoft has not listed it yet.
- Click Install and let it close Claude. In the FreeBird installer, click Install in the bottom right corner. Claude has to be closed, so save any work in progress, then click the blue button to close Claude. The install takes less than a minute.
- Connect FreeBird and approve this computer. Click Connect FreeBird, read the licence and privacy notes, tick I agree and add your initials. Choose the member sign-in or Start my 5-day free trial, wait 10 to 60 seconds for the browser to open, add your initials again and click Approve this device.
- Continue in Claude and save the skill. Back in FreeBird, click Continue in Claude. Claude opens with a message already typed in, so press Enter. Once Claude confirms HawkSoft is ready and FreeBird is licensed, click Save on the FreeBird skill, scroll down and click Save again.
- Ask your first HawkSoft question. Try "Which renewals are coming up in the next 30 days?" Claude shows its plan, FreeBird runs the report in HawkSoft, and the results appear in Claude in about 30 to 60 seconds.
What you are installing
FreeBird is the Windows app that lets Claude control HawkSoft for you: certificates, ACORD forms, new prospects, renewal checks and dozens of other tasks, at lightning-fast speed. This video is the install walkthrough. If you want to see what FreeBird does first, the HawkSoft demo tutorial shows it adding a prospect, filling an ACORD 125 and adding a driver.
To start, go to wheretobegin.ai/account/freebird and log in. No account yet? You can buy the full WhereToBegin.ai course for $399, which includes FreeBird, or start a free 5-day trial. Once you are signed in, click Download FreeBird for Windows and the download starts on its own.
Running the installer
Open the finished download from your browser's downloads list. Windows may show a Windows protected your PC notice. That is okay: click More info, then Run anyway. It shows up because FreeBird is so new that Microsoft does not have it in its library yet, and that pop-up is going away soon.
In the FreeBird installer, click Install in the bottom right corner. FreeBird needs Claude to be closed while it installs, so if Claude is open it asks you to click a blue button that closes Claude for you. Finish anything you were working on in Claude first. The install itself takes less than a minute.
Connecting and approving your computer
Click Connect FreeBird. This screen covers licensing and privacy. A licence covers one computer. None of your client data goes to FreeBird's servers: it stays between Claude and HawkSoft on your PC. You are also responsible for checking FreeBird's work, the same way you would look over the work of an assistant who sat at your computer and worked in HawkSoft for you.
Tick the I agree box and add your initials. Members click the WhereToBegin.ai member sign-in; everyone else clicks Start my 5-day free trial. FreeBird shows a code and opens your browser to prepare the connection, which takes 10 to 60 seconds depending on your internet speed. The browser asks you to approve FreeBird on your device, showing your computer's name (in the video it says OmniBook). Add your initials again and click Approve this device. When it says the computer is approved, the hardest part is over.
Finishing in Claude and your first request
Back in FreeBird, click Continue in Claude. The Claude desktop app opens with a message already typed in: "Is HawkSoft ready? Use FreeBird to check, then install the FreeBird skill for me." Press Enter or click the orange send button. In 10 to 60 seconds FreeBird connects, makes sure HawkSoft is open, and Claude reports that HawkSoft is running and responding and FreeBird is licensed. Click Save on the skill, which is a small automation recipe that teaches Claude everything FreeBird can do. It expands, so scroll down and click Save again.
While that runs, a small FreeBird window sits in the bottom right of your screen. It shows that HawkSoft is ready and whether any tasks are running, and you can minimize it. Click "What can FreeBird do?" to search by keyword, like ACORD or certs, see how each task works, and copy an example prompt such as "When did we last talk to the Thornburys?"
For a first test, the video asks "Which renewals are coming up in the next 30 days?" Claude lays out its plan, FreeBird builds what it calls the morning brief in HawkSoft, groups the rows by expiration date, and about 30 to 60 seconds later the clients, carriers and premiums appear right in Claude. You never have to open HawkSoft yourself, and you can keep asking follow-up questions about those clients and policies.
